Coyotes, Both Friend and Foe
A coyote seeking his next meal.
Coyotes have a reputation as tricksters and pests. This week鈥檚 Throwback Thursday photo shows a coyote on the prowl. Native to North America, this member of the canine family is an opportunistic predator. They adapt easily, making them pesky in urban areas as they get into garbage, dog food and other food sources. In rural areas, they eat small rodents, rabbits, birds, snakes and frogs, as well as deer and livestock. This being said, they eat pests but become pests themselves. Coyotes are the No. 1 predator of livestock in the U.S.
