Potato Plow
The image depicts the potato plow with its plowshare responsible for digging up the potatoes.
Potatoes, a staple in many cultures, take work to harvest. And growing underground, they require digging in one manner or another.
This week鈥檚 What鈥檚 New Wednesday celebrates the horse-drawn potato plow. The horse is hitched to the plow and the harvester pushes the nose of the plow down to hopefully below where the potatoes grew. As the horses pull the plow, the potatoes go up over the plowshare and over the metal grate that helps to remove the soil from the tubers. They fall on the ground ready for people behind the plow to pick them up.
