The image shows many triangular shaped shelters for chickens to roam around a live in.
Chickens roaming in the field outside their houses.

Even chickens need a place to call home. This week’s Throwback Thursday shows chickens and their housing.

Taken by Leeland Sudlow, Extension photographer, this July 1956 photograph shows Rita Barnnett and her two children, Greg and Mark, feeding the pullets. The photo was taken on the Hugh Barnett farm of Brookings County. The Barnetts’ daughter, Ann Volin, recalled that the triangular chicken coops could be pulled by a tractor when the chickens had foraged down an area.
