For today's Throwback Thursday, we have a postcard from 1911. The image is an alfalfa field in Ipswich. The postcard states that the owner of the field is Marcus P. Beebe.

In the 1850s, alfalfa seeds were imported from Chile to California before spreading west across the U.S., including to South Dakota. The first reported planting of alfalfa in the Dakota Territory was near Deadwood in 1881.
