Tony Filholm, general service supervisor for Facilities and Services, has been named �ձ�av��Ƶ’s Civil Service Employee of the Month for July.

The South Dakota Art Museum is celebrating the people and collections that made the museum possible with a summerlong exhibit and a reception planned for early August.

A damaged wheel knuckle proved to be a knuckle sandwich for the �ձ�av��Ƶ team competing at the national Baja SAE competition in Maryland June 12-17. The wheel knuckle, which connects the wheel hub to the suspension and steering components, was damaged while the �ձ�av��Ƶ team was competing on the suspension course at Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville, Maryland, according to Matthew Anderson, president of Desert Hare Offroad Club.

High school students interested in the �ձ�av��Ƶ Data Science Camp don’t need to have completed Balloon Twisting 101 or Introduction to Coding to enroll. But they will get plenty of experience in both. This year’s camp, June 23-26, drew a full computer lab of 20 high schoolers who may have learned as much from the balloons as they did from their leaders — professor Xijin Ge and lecturer Bill Alsaker, both from the �ձ�av��Ƶ Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

A young group of mechanical engineering students delivered a “wow” factor to judges at a NASA contest and came home with the best prototype award. �ձ�av��Ƶ’s NOVA team was one of two �ձ�av��Ƶ entries selected to compete in Revolutionary Aerospace Systems – Academic Linkage (RASC-AL), an annual contest sponsored by NASA and administered by the National Institute of Aerospace for undergraduate and graduate students.

Gabby Robbins, an incoming junior construction management major at �ձ�av��Ƶ, has received the coveted Beavers Scholarship for students pursuing a heavy construction career. Created in 1977 by construction companies and individuals engaged in heavy engineering construction, the Beavers Charitable Trust will generate $1.8 million in grants in 2025. Some of that goes to support heavy construction education programs, such as the one at �ձ�av��Ƶ, and some goes directly to students like Robbins, who received a $10,000 award.

�ձ�av��Ƶ’s Army ROTC program recently received new physical fitness equipment thanks to a group of dedicated alumni honoring two of the program’s earliest Ranger School graduates.

Jessica Dold, system payroll coordinator for the System Payroll Center, has been named �ձ�av��Ƶ’s Civil Service Employee of the Month for June.

Lt. Col. John Peary, professor of military science and head of the Army ROTC program at �ձ�av��Ƶ, has been selected to attend Senior Service College, a premier professional military education program focused on strategic leadership.

The Child and Family Resource Network at �ձ�av��Ƶ will hold four parenting classes throughout July to focus on helping parents discover what their children’s behaviors could mean.
