Youth Camps and Activities

Learn about the benefits of working in health care

Through the College of Nursing’s outreach programs, young students across South Dakota can explore and learn about the benefits of a career in nursing. Whether you join us for one of our camps where you can explore nursing hands-on, or tell us all about why you want to be a nurse by participating in our essay contest, we are excited about your passion for the field and can't wait to get to know you!

Hands-On Camps
We recognize that there is a shortage of nurses in South Dakota — and across the country — and we developed these programs to inform students about careers in nursing and other health-related fields. If you’re wondering what it would be like to work as a nurse, pharmacist or other health care professional, you can attend our camps.

'Why I Want to be a Nurse' Essay Contest
Our "Why I Want to be a Nurse" essay contest is a fun opportunity for fifth grade students aspiring to be nurses. Through the contest and camps, we engage students of different ages, grades and locations and make them aware of the advantages of a career in health care.
