Through a nearly $100,000 grant, the National Science Foundation has positioned ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ to help improve the nation's research enterprise. One of the NSF’s primary goals is to increase the United States' ability to conduct high-quality, impactful research.

Over the past two decades, the United States has been importing more and more avocados each year, underlining a growing obsession with the nutrient-dense fruit. Simultaneously, the U.S. and the rest of the world have been dealing with a growing environmental crisis spurred on by an overreliance on plastic. Could avocados — specifically avocado peels — provide a potential solution?

ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ engineering students used down-to-earth knowledge to design an out-of-this-world lunar transport vehicle which won them a NASA-sponsored contest. The ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ team was one of 15 teams selected as a finalist in NASA’S Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts – Academic Linkage (RASC-AL) competition.

The South Dakota Art Museum at ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ (ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ) celebrates the opening of the highly anticipated Dakota Modern: The Art of Oscar Howe with free festivities for all ages, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on June 10.

Seven members of the professional staff at ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ have been honored for their quality work. The recipients were honored at the ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ Professional Staff Advisory Council annual meeting in mid-May.

Ancient snow and ice from the coldest places on Earth can provide insight into our past, current and future climate. Jihong Cole-Dai, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ, has traveled to the coldest and most remote locations in the world to collect snow and ice core samples.

The South Dakota Board of Regents approved requests by ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ on May 9 to add two new academic programs in elementary education and special education. The programs were then approved by the South Dakota Department of Education, May 22 so they may officially launch next fall.

The acclaimed exhibition Dakota Modern: The Art of Oscar Howe  culminates its national tour in Oscar Howe’s home state of South Dakota. Dakota Modern will be on view June 10, 2023–September 17, 2023 at the South Dakota Art Museum at ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ in Brookings.

Deirdre Cross is a Human Biology major at ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ, also pursuing minors in Chemistry and Health Education. She is on a Pre-Physician’s Assistant track, with plans to become a PA after graduation. In addition to pursuing her major, two minors, and being an Honors student, Cross has also earned a Phlebotomy Certificate.

ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ's Haarberg Center for Drug, Disease and Delivery, housed in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, has announced its second round of funding for research projects through the Haarberg 3D Center's Pilot Grant Program.
