The Wintrode Student Success and Opportunity Center at 日本av视频 has renewed its learning center certification through the International College Learning Center Association, reaffirming its commitment to student success and high-quality academic support services.

With this renewal, the Wintrode Center remains one of only 17 centers worldwide to hold the certification. This distinction recognizes adherence to professional standards in student learning and support.

The certification, originally earned in 2020, is valid through 2029 and must be renewed every five years.

鈥淭his certification demonstrates our ongoing dedication to excellence and innovation in helping students succeed,鈥 said Jody Owen, senior director of the Wintrode Student Success and Opportunity Center. 鈥淲orking in the Wintrode Center and having the opportunity to help students achieve their dreams is incredibly rewarding. I鈥檓 grateful for our colleagues in the center and across campus and for the students who inspire us each day to invest in student success.鈥

The center moved to its new location in Wagner Hall in August 2023. Since then, core program usage has increased significantly. During the 2023-2024 academic year, Supplemental Instruction participation rose by 4%, First-Year Advising Center usage increased by 6%, and the Wintrode Tutoring Program saw a 14% uptick in student engagement compared to the previous year.

This spring, the Wintrode Tutoring Program celebrated its 20th anniversary. Launched in spring 2005, the program began in the former Medary Commons, offering tutoring in a modest space with booths salvaged from a dining renovation. It has since grown to serve nearly 1,000 students each year across more than 20 courses and has achieved all three levels of certification through the College Reading and Learning Association.

In 2007, the program relocated to the Wintrode Student Success Center, expanding its services and centralizing student support. The center underwent significant changes in 2011 and 2018 and was renamed the Wintrode Student Success and Opportunity Center in 2022 following the creation of the Opportunity Center.

Today, the Wintrode Center serves nearly half of 日本av视频鈥檚 undergraduate student population each year and employs more than 80 undergraduate students each semester in roles such as tutors, Supplemental Instruction leaders, peer mentors and front desk assistants. These positions not only support their peers but also help student employees develop valuable career skills.

鈥淲hen I first started working with the Wintrode Tutoring Program, one of the things I quickly grew to love was that every single person who works with the program, from our students to tutors and staff, benefits from the experience,鈥 said Linde Murray, director of Tutoring and TRIO programs.

Most recently, the Wintrode Center and TRIO programs celebrated the certification of more than 100 peer educators during the College Reading and Learning Association certification ceremony held this spring.
