Accreditation assessment team invites public comment on UPD

The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators will have a team of assessors examine all aspects of the ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operation and support services starting Oct. 26.

Verification by the team that the ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ Police Department meets the association’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation — a highly prized recognition of campus public safety professional excellence.

University members, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling 605-688-6272 from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 27. The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators’ assessment team will accept comments. Telephone comments must address the department’s ability to comply with the association’s standards. The association’s Accreditation Standards Manual is available on its website, .

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may email them to jmurphy@iaclea.org

The ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ Police Department has to comply with 227 standards in order to achieve accreditation.

The assessors are Wendy Dorival and Nina Jamsen. Once the assessors complete their review of the department, they will report to IACLEA, which will then decide if the ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ Police Department is to continue with its accreditation status.

Accreditation must be renewed every four years, during which time the department must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
