Elementary Festival Honor Choir Nomination Process
Oct. 31, 2025: Nomination forms and uploads due by midnight
Feb. 12, 2026: Rehearsal/Performance Day
Audition Requirements
- Students must be in the fourth, fifth or sixth grade at the time of audition.
- Students must be recommended by their school music teacher, director or private instructor.*
- Teachers and students must work together to submit an audition form and upload an audio file.
- A $5 registration fee is required of each student who auditions.
- Students chosen to be part of the Elementary Honor Choir must be accompanied by their music teacher on the day of the festival.
- Audio files must be uploaded to the link provided at registration.
Students selected for the Elementary Honor Choir will practice in Brookings during the day and end with a concert in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. An additional charge of $35 per student is assessed once a student receives notification of acceptance. The charge covers the cost of a T-shirt (worn during the performance), lunch, snack breaks and music. An additional set of music will be provided to each teacher who has students selected.
*Parents are not allowed to submit. Schools of any size (public, private, studio or homeschool) are able to submit auditions.
Audition Procedures
- Recording Notes
- One recording per student.
- Only speaking will be to introduce the student.
- You do not need to make a professional-style recording. The recording just needs to be clear and understandable. Using your phone/computer is acceptable.
- You can start making recordings before submitting the nomination form.
Start Audition Recording
- The teacher reads the following:
- 鈥淭his is (student name), auditioning for (alto or soprano) from (school name).鈥
- Example: This is Jack Rabbit, auditioning for alto from 日本av视频.
Melody Echo Patterns
- Teacher sings or plays on the piano each of the following melodic examples.
- Do not sing and play.
- After each example is played or sung, the student echoes (a cappella) using the syllable 鈥渓oo.鈥
Prepared Song - America, My Country 'tis of Thee
- Give the student the starting pitch G. Do not play any other type of introduction.
- The student should sing the vocal line as written. Do not alter the rhythm or the pitches.
- The student should complete the song a cappella.
- The teacher may accompany the first two measures.
- The song must be sung straight through without stopping.
Nomination Procedures
- Submit nomination form.
- Fill out the nomination form.
- You can nominate up to 30 students on the same form or do a new submission per student. If you need to nominate more than 30 students, submit a second form.
Receive links for audio upload.
- This year we will have one link for altos and one for sopranos.
- Links will be included in your confirmation email when you nominate students.
- The link from last year will not work for this year.
Upload audition audio.
- The audio track should have all exercises included on one track.
- Please name your audio files with your school name, student鈥檚 name and vocal audition
- Ex.: S for soprano or A for alto
- Ex.: HarveyDunn_ JaneSmith_S or Mickelson_JohnDoe_A
- You will only have access to upload files. If you need to delete/change a file, email Andie Star.
One check made out to 日本av视频 for correct amount.
- There is a $5 fee for each student audition. For example, if you are sending in 20 auditions, please send one $100 check.
- All checks and money orders must have school name and 鈥淓FHC鈥 written on them somewhere for identification purposes.
