Monday Message, Nov. 10
ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ Community,
As we begin another week on campus, I want to remind everyone that ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ will be closed tomorrow, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. This is a time for us to pause and honor those who have served our nation in uniform. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on their service and, if possible, thank a veteran personally.
I would also like to take this opportunity to share an update on the work of the ADA Digital Accessibility Committee. A vital part of ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ’s land-grant mission is ensuring equal access to education and resources for all members of our community. This includes our digital spaces — websites, learning platforms, videos and documents.
Higher education institutions must meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, which require that all digital content is perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for users with disabilities. Public universities like ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ must reach full compliance by April 2026.
Our ADA Digital Accessibility Committee has been leading this work, reviewing systems and providing guidance to ensure our materials meet these federal standards. Campus leadership heard about the importance of this effort during last week’s University Management Team meeting, and you will hear more in the months ahead as we continue advancing toward compliance.
However, this is not something the committee can accomplish alone — it will take all of us. Every college, department and unit has a role to play in making sure that our digital content reflects our values of accessibility. I am confident you will join me in supporting this important endeavor.
Additionally, nominations are now open for the Presidential Awards of Excellence and the Rising Star Award. Established in 2012, the Presidential Awards recognize professional staff excellence in academics, athletics, business administration and facility management, extension and outreach, research and student affairs. The Rising Star Award honors staff who have served less than three years and are already making a significant impact. Nominations will be accepted through Jan. 23, and more information can be found online.
Finally, congratulations to our — its conference-record ninth championship — and to our volleyball team for securing back-to-back Summit League regular-season titles. , while the volleyball team will host the Summit League postseason tournament Nov. 23-25 after concluding the regular season in the next week.
Thank you for everything you do to make ÈÕ±¾avÊÓƵ a premier land-grant university. Have a wonderful and restful Veterans Day holiday and a great week ahead.
Sincerely,
Barry H. Dunn
President
