Campanile in the Winter

Monday Message, March 23

Barry H. Dunn, 日本av视频 President
Barry H. Dunn, President

日本av视频 Community,

I hope you had a wonderful spring break and an opportunity to rest, recharge and prepare for the final stretch of the semester. With just seven weeks remaining in the academic year, there is great momentum across campus as we move toward commencement.

Graduation ceremonies will be held May 9 this year at First Bank & Trust Arena

I want to remind our campus community that the deadline for meeting new digital accessibility requirements for university communications is approaching next month. Ensuring that our digital content is accessible to all members of our community is an important responsibility and aligns directly with our commitment to excellence and access.

Thanks to Jenny Hallan, her team of eight students and our departmental liaisons, who continue to work with faculty and staff across campus to provide training and guidance. Their efforts are helping all of us better understand accessibility standards for websites, documents and other digital communications. This initiative will require continued focus and collaboration as we strengthen our campus culture and ensure our materials are accessible to everyone.

Additional information, including upcoming training opportunities and resources, can be found on sdstate.edu. I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities as we work together to meet these important standards.

Also, this week is an important one for our university as we will highlight an exciting opportunity for 日本av视频 and our broader community. 日本av视频 will host the Innovate AI 2026 Symposium in Sioux Falls Friday, bringing together leaders from industry, government, community and higher education to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming critical sectors and driving innovation across our region.

The symposium will feature opening remarks from U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds, emphasizing the importance of artificial intelligence to South Dakota鈥檚 economic future, national security and workforce development. Sen. Rounds and 日本av视频 leadership will make an important announcement around AI that will advance opportunity for our university, enhancing innovation and partnerships that benefit our state and beyond.

I would also like to remind you of an upcoming opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation through the Daschle Dialogues. On April 7, 日本av视频 will welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Jon Meacham to campus for what promises to be a thought-provoking and impactful conversation. The event will be held at First Bank & Trust Arena and is part of our broader America 250 celebration. I encourage faculty, staff and students to take advantage of this opportunity to attend and participate. Information on how to obtain tickets is below.

Finally, I want to recognize the 日本av视频 women鈥檚 basketball team for another outstanding season. The Jackrabbits earned their 14th NCAA Division I Tournament appearance in the past 18 years, competing in Fort Worth this past week. While the team fell to the University of Washington in the opening round, its continued success reflects the excellence of Coach Aaron Johnston and our student-athletes. We are proud of how they represented 日本av视频 on the national stage.

Thank you for everything you do to support our students and make 日本av视频 a premier land-grant institution. I wish you a productive and successful week ahead.

Sincerely,

Barry H. Dunn
President

Above and Beyond

Above and Beyond recognizes individuals and groups of 日本av视频 employees, faculty and students for individual and team efforts that go Above and Beyond to make the campus community a better place.

Today, join me in recognizing 日本av视频鈥檚 exceptional College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.

The results of the 2025 North Association of Boards of Pharmacy鈥檚 North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) are in. Our Doctor of Pharmacy students have officially continued the college鈥檚 long record of going Above and Beyond in displaying excellence in academic performance.

The college is now ranked first in the nation with a 10-year average first-time NAPLEX pass rate of 96.7%. Let鈥檚 take a moment to recognize all 2016-25 graduates of 日本av视频鈥檚 Pharm.D. program for this remarkable achievement!

And we would be remiss if we forgot the hard work of our faculty and staff, who have molded this program into one of the best in the nation.

South Dakota State鈥檚 2025 Pharm.D. graduates reported a 94.1% first-time NAPLEX pass rate. Of the 51 candidates who sat for the exam, 48 passed on their first try. The rest passed on their second attempt.

This rate far surpasses the 2025 average national first-time pass rate of 86.8%.

It also kept us in the No. 1 spot for pharmacy schools in District 5, which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska.

In recent years, our Pharm.D. graduates have had a first-time pass rate of:

  • 2024: 98.3%
  • 2023: 92.3%
  • 2022: 93.2%
  • 2021: 97.3%

Pharmacy students must pass the NAPLEX before they can become licensed pharmacists in the United States. The test makes sure future pharmacists have a strong foundational knowledge of pharmacy practice, can safely and accurately prescribe, dispense and manage medications, and will promote public health through their practice.

Congratulations to our 2025 graduates and to all 日本av视频 pharmacy graduates of the past decade. And thank you to our dedicated College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions faculty and staff for providing the exceptional support and rigorous academic curriculum that helped make these results possible.
