The South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and South Dakota State Foundation Seed Stocks Division have released a new wheat variety to seed producers. The new hard red winter line will be available for farmers to purchase for fall 2026 planting.

�ձ�av��Ƶ and its vast contributions to agriculture will be showcased during a television taping of the “AgDay College Roadshow” on campus Wednesday, Oct. 22. The public is invited to join �ձ�av��Ƶ students, faculty and staff for the taping.

An undergraduate student in �ձ�av��Ƶ's College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences has received a prestigious Certified Angus Beef award.

In the early 2000s, �ձ�av��Ƶ used the tagline “You can go anywhere from here” in a number of ads to feature students and alumni who used �ձ�av��Ƶ as a launching pad to a variety of study abroad locations and high-profile careers. One of the featured students was Ryan Lefers, a farm kid from Corsica studying agricultural engineering, who had participated in a study abroad program in Egypt. The North African country would be just the start of Lefers’ Middle Eastern adventures.

�ձ�av��Ƶ, Black Hills State University and Monument Health celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated and expanded nursing facility at BHSU-Rapid City on Sept. 30. The event marked a significant milestone in a collaborative effort to strengthen health care education and workforce development in western South Dakota.

Before South Dakota was a state, before the Dakota Agricultural College became �ձ�av��Ƶ and even before the United States Weather Bureau, the precursor to the National Weather Service, was formed, there were people who recognized the value of collecting weather data. The first iteration of a weather station in Brookings began recording daily temperature and precipitation totals on July 1, 1888.

For the second consecutive year, student visits at the Engineering Career Fair topped 1,000, this time being a record 1,086 visits. The 2024 mark was 1,001. The Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering Career Fair was Sept. 17-18 at Club 71 and loge-level spaces in Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on the �ձ�av��Ƶ campus.

Kate Connor is only a junior at �ձ�av��Ƶ, but she already is developing quite a resume. The most recent entry is the receipt of a $5,000 scholarship from the American Society of Concrete Contractors, which was presented to her and a student from Middle Tennessee State at the association’s banquet in Indianapolis Sept. 10. In April, she was notified that she was the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from another concrete group.
