Patience is a virtue, but when it comes to working in a production lab, speed and precision rate pretty high too. Thanks to an anonymous gift, Lohr College of Engineering has been able to buy six new CNC (computer numerical control) machines valued at $120,000. The machines arrived and were installed in the production lab of the Chicoine Architecture, Mathematics and Engineering Hall in September.

For the fourth year in a row, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) chapter at �ձ�av��Ƶ returned from its national conference with a national award. This year the chapter received the Impact to AISES Mission Award, which considers four areas — community engagement, cultural integration, professional development and advocacy and awareness.

The South Dakota Art Museum at �ձ�av��Ƶ will celebrate the immersive exhibition of huge blown glass ears of corn, “Primordial Shift: The Art of Michael Meilahn,” with a free public reception and panel discussion from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 27.

David C. Earnest, the Odeen-Swanson Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of South Dakota, has been named dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at �ձ�av��Ƶ. Earnest was selected following a national search and will begin working on the �ձ�av��Ƶ campus July 8.

Former, current and future public servants gathered April 9 to celebrate the creation of the Mike Huether Public Service Academy at �ձ�av��Ƶ.

The South Dakota Art Museum at �ձ�av��Ƶ will open its newest exhibition, “Termespheres: Without Beginning or End,” with a free public reception and artist talk from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Artist Dick Termes will speak at 6 p.m., discussing the spherical paintings in this exhibition, known as Termespheres, and his process for creating them.

The annual �ձ�av��Ƶ Celebration of Faculty Excellence recognized 30 faculty members, researchers and scientists Tuesday. The event honors faculty members in the university's colleges for outstanding research, teaching and service.
