The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation was honored recently as the 2024 recipient of the �ձ�av��Ƶ Friend of the Beef Industry award for its contributions to the South Dakota beef industry.

Former �ձ�av��Ƶ President Peggy Miller joined a group of nine other people to be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame at ceremonies in Chamberlain Sept. 13-14. Miller, who served as �ձ�av��Ƶ’s 18th president from Jan. 1, 1998, to Dec. 31, 2006, became only the third out of the land-grant university’s 20 presidents to be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame, joining Robert Wagner (1998) and Hilton Briggs (1980).

The fall semester at �ձ�av��Ƶ brings three things without fail: the return of Jackrabbits to Brookings, opportunities for campus and community connections, and the celebration of One Day for STATE. The �ձ�av��Ƶ Foundation will host the university’s eighth annual giving day on Thursday, Sept. 5. The 24-hour campaign invites Jackrabbits everywhere to join together in celebration of �ձ�av��Ƶ and the incredible impact of philanthropic giving.

More than a century ago, Floyd Hansmeier’s Grandpa Henry hopped on a train in Iowa seeking adventure out West. As family lore goes, when the train stopped for the night in Bristol, South Dakota, Henry Hansmeier got a hotel room for the night, overslept, missed the train and never left Bristol.

Advice Brad Greenway received from his college adviser 40 years ago guides him to this day. “He told me, ‘Don’t ever start something you are figuring on failing at,’” recalled the third-generation Mitchell farmer.

The Child and Family Resource Network at �ձ�av��Ƶ will hold four parenting classes throughout September to focus on helping parents discover what their children’s behaviors could mean.
